Whlist carrying out a vital mission of mercy Captain Kirk apparently dies when the Enterprise encounters an apparent duplicate of Spock which is in fact not what it seems—as well as something shapeless which tries to ingest them and hijacks the Enterprise so Scotty jury-rigs the engines, which means everything turns out okay, and the planet is saved in the nick of time. Then, finally Chekov says something worthy and they leave at warp factor three.
